It aims to expand democratic participation in the workplace and to democratise economic life more broadly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Scope<\/strong><br>Industrial democracy can take different forms and operate at multiple levels. These include:<br>Worker participation in management through representation (e.g. worker representatives, co-determination mechanisms),<br>Direct participation and collective decision-making at the workplace,<br>Models in which workers are involved in ownership and control (such as cooperatives and worker self-management).<br>These forms represent different expressions of industrial democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Distinction<\/strong><br>Industrial democracy goes beyond traditional trade unionism and representative mechanisms by aiming to transform workers from actors who merely demand rights into active participants in production and management processes.<br>In this sense:<br>Trade union representation primarily focuses on the struggle for rights, whereas<br>Industrial democracy includes participation in decision-making and management processes.<br>Moreover, unlike worker self-management, industrial democracy does not necessarily involve full control or ownership by workers; rather, it encompasses a broader spectrum of participation at varying degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Historical example<br><\/strong>Different forms of industrial democracy have emerged across countries. The co-determination model in Germany provides workers with representation on company boards, while Scandinavian countries have developed workplace participation mechanisms based on democratic principles. In addition, worker councils and self-management experiences represent more advanced forms of industrial democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Evaluation<\/strong><br>Industrial democracy holds significant potential for the democratisation of economic life. However, the limits of participation, its actual impact on management, and its relationship with market conditions remain central points of debate.
